Doesn’t a freshly cleaned carpet look amazing? The colors are so vibrant and all those stains are gone, making the carpet look almost brand new. You’re incredibly happy, but a day or two goes by and suddenly those stains you thought disappeared have come back. You’ve just been hit with the wicked wicking effect. Just like the wizard of Oz, water may make the problem go away, but the wicking witch has come back for more.
How Wicking Works
When someone puts a wick into a kerosene lamp, the wick slowly soaks up the fuel until it’s complete covered from top to bottom. As that fuel is used up, the wick continues to soak up the fuel until it’s gone. The same thing can happen with your carpet.
Imagine a carpet stain as an iceberg in the ocean. What you physically see is only a small part of the whole stain. There is more at the base of the carpet and possibly in the padding. When a carpet cleaner uses a large amount of water, it can get the dirt from the fibers and remove the visible stain, but there is more waiting below the surface.
The large amount of water soaks the fibers and padding. As it dries, the below surface stain is sucked up by the fibers again and the stain reappears
The Key to Wicking Winning is Low Moisture
You might have noticed something about the wicking process. The wicking happens as the carpet slowly dries. OxyGreen uses less water than traditional carpet cleaners, so the drying time is greatly reduced. You go from 24 hours of drying to just a few hours. The stain doesn’t have the opportunity to rise up through the fibers and to the surface.
OxyGreen prides itself in being environmentally friendly not only with our cleaning products, but the way we clean. Our low moisture cleaning system is unlike most others and is the best available to prevent wicking. No matter how much the other cleaners try to suck up all the water they use, they can’t get enough. With OxyGreen, you can whip wicking.
